TOP News – Preparing for Purim
As part of our ongoing outreach to Florida Jewish seniors, we are beginning preparations for Purim.
Our seniors will start with Rabbi Goldhar’s Crash Course on Purim, followed by classes discussing the history of Purim and the mitzvos of the day. These senior Torah classes help residents connect to Jewish tradition in a meaningful and uplifting way.
We are also planning a joint Purim celebration at Congregation Shaaray Tefilah, bringing together multiple assisted living communities for a unified and joyful experience.
In addition, our annual $100,000 fundraising raffle is underway. This major fundraiser allows Torah Outreach Program to continue expanding its assisted living Torah programs and reach more seniors across South Florida.
Parsha Overview – Parshas Mishpatim
Parshas Mishpatim focuses heavily on interpersonal laws, justice, and responsibility. The Torah outlines laws regarding servants, damages, theft, lending money, Shabbos, the Shmitah year, and the Jewish holidays of Pesach, Shavuos, and Sukkos.
The parsha concludes by returning to the events surrounding Matan Torah, where the Jewish nation declares, “Na’aseh v’nishma” – we will first do and then understand.
These teachings remind us that ethical behavior and how we treat one another are central to Torah life.
Dvar Torah – Why Mishpatim Follows Sinai
After describing the dramatic giving of the Torah at Sinai, the Torah shifts to detailed laws about how people must treat one another. Then it returns to the Sinai narrative.
Why the pause?
The message is clear: justice, honesty, and compassion are not separate from spirituality. They are part of it. The way we treat others is itself a continuation of the revelation at Sinai.
For our Jewish senior community in Florida, this message resonates deeply. Torah is not only studied, it is lived through kindness and respect.
